Make a Daily Schedule
Creating a daily schedule (and sticking to it!) helps students feel more organized in their learning journey. Developing standard times for starting the day, completing homework, and playing/recreation time can help students focus on other parts of their schoolwork.
It's important to create this schedule with your students. Using their feedback helps them develop time management skills and more responsibility over their learning journey.
Create a Learning Space and Environment
Every child learns differently, so it's essential to identify what is best for your student. Work with them to develop a space where they feel comfortable and productive. It could be at the kitchen table, a chair in the living area, or a desk in their room, as long as they have all the resources they need and know it's time to work when in that space.
Attend Live Sessions
Families at Fox Valley Virtual School enjoy the flexibility we provide them and their student(s), but it's also important to attend the live sessions with teachers and classmates. Attending live sessions boost engagement and understanding of the curriculum, giving children their best opportunity to succeed.
Communicate with Your Teacher
Our teachers want to know your child and are available to provide assistance and guidance to both parents and students. In addition, you can contact your teacher through email or phone. Communicating with your teacher keeps you updated on your child's progress and focus areas.
Encourage Self-Direction From Your Student
We place a high emphasis on students taking ownership of their learning journey and developing higher-level essential skills of time management, organization and self-directed learning. It's good to help guide your child when they have questions, but encourage them to take the lead when they can.
Be a Part of the Community
We're a community of learners here at Fox Valley Virtual School and value relationships with our families. Joining parent groups, attending open houses, and reaching out to your teacher will continue to build a support group around students. Just because we are not in person does not mean we cannot build relationships.
Where to Ask Questions
We strongly believe that open and ongoing communication will create a strong partnership between families and our school. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher when needed, and please be as direct as possible in all your communications.
The following should help you efficiently get your questions answered and concerns addressed.
General Questions
Please contact the school principal with questions about daily operations, policy, or procedural issues.
Questions Concerning Your Child
Contact your child's teachers first with any concerns or questions regarding your child. If the message requires dialogue, communicate directly with the teacher after school or leave a message or email. Our teachers make communication with families a top priority and will respond as soon as they can.
Questions Related to Educational Issues
Your child's classroom teacher can answer questions about curriculum, teaching methods, classroom management, discipline policies and procedures, and teacher-student relationships. The classroom teacher will either gather the information or refer parents when appropriate to administration.
My kids work hard but also have time to just be kids during the day - to play and use what they're learning in their everyday lives.
