At Fox Valley Virtual, where personalized learning and supportive environments foster academic growth and personal development. Here’s what makes our 6th, 7th and 8th-grade educational model shine:
Passionate Educators:
- Our educators are passionate about virtual learning and deeply committed to student success in an online environment. They didn't just take a traditional middle school curriculum and put it online. Instead, our highly skilled educators carefully adapted course materials, instructional methods, and assessments to optimize the virtual learning experience. Through specialized training and thoughtful instructional design, they have crafted an engaging, interactive, and responsive online classroom tailored to the unique needs of middle school students.
Safe and Supportive Environment:
- In our small class sizes, students feel at ease to open up and share their experiences, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie. The individual attention allows for deeper connections between students and teachers, creating a nurturing learning environment.
As an online middle school teacher, I've witnessed firsthand the positive impact virtual learning can have on student behavior and engagement. In the virtual classroom setting, we tend to see fewer disruptive behaviors than in traditional face-to-face environments. This creates a safer, more inclusive space where students feel empowered to be themselves without the social pressures and distractions that can sometimes occur in physical classrooms. With fewer behavioral issues to address, our attention as educators can remain focused on delivering high-quality instruction and supporting each student's unique learning needs. The virtual model allows for more direct teaching time and personalized attention. - Fox Valley Virtual Educator
Flexible Schedule:
At Fox Valley Virtual, we offer a flexible yet structured learning environment tailored to the unique needs of online middle school students. Our day begins at 8:45 a.m. Families love our later start to the day because studies show that middle and high school students do better when they get a little more sleep.
Balanced Learning Approach:
- We understand the importance of balancing screen time with independent learning. Students have a mix of live, synchronous class time and independent study time, allowing families to set a schedule that works best for their child. This additional independence helps students take agency for their own learning and practice time management, scheduling, and breaking down tasks into milestone goals—all valuable skills they will need for high school and beyond.
- Small groups give every student the assistance they need to succeed academically. During these small group or 1:1 sessions, our educators can identify individual areas for growth, reinforce key concepts, and work closely with students to master the material. Whether providing targeted instruction or enrichment for learners wanting an extra challenge, these intervention periods are an important part of our balanced approach. By carving out dedicated time for tailored instruction, we can more effectively address each student's needs and learning gaps, setting them up for long-term success.
- Thursday afternoons are always open for independent learning. That means families have dedicated weekday time to spend however they see fit—our families appreciate knowing when they can schedule time for outings or appointments without worrying about students missing live instruction time. Teachers are available during these afternoons for any student or family who would like to check in or get some additional support.
Emphasis on Student-Centered Learning:
- Our program is designed with individualized learning in mind. We emphasize student-centered learning, allowing students to work independently, challenge themselves, and progress through the curriculum as appropriate for their abilities. For example, our 7th and 8th grade students learn together in combined English and Science classes.
By blending the two grade levels, we create dynamic learning environments where students can progress through the curriculum at their own individualized pace. Those working above grade level can be challenged with advanced concepts and enrichment, while students who need more time to master the material can receive extra support and remediation. The combined class approach prevents students from being constrained by traditional grade-level boundaries, fostering an inclusive educational experience where everyone can grow.
Join us at Fox Valley Virtual, where personalized learning meets academic excellence, and every student's journey is celebrated and supported. Here, students thrive, grow, and learn.
