The purpose of this board is to oversee and determine the mission and strategic plan. This includes establishing the educational philosophy of the FVVS, establishing policies and procedures unique to daily operations, overseeing and approving the budget, approving and coordinating marketing and public relation strategies, ensuring compliance with the contract with the authorizer, overseeing registration and application windows, applying for grants specific for FVVS, and entering into contracts for professional services.
President - Heather Louden
Heather has lived in Menasha for 13 years with her husband, Dustin and their two sons, Emerson, age 10, and Everett, age 8. Both boys are students at Fox Valley Virtual School in 5th and 2nd grade, respectively. She has been extremely active in her children’s educational journey from a young age. As a former business owner, Heather brings a breadth of knowledge to the Governance Board including budgeting, sales, customer service, and management. She currently serves as a volunteer at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church as a church council member, as Christian Education Chair, and Ministry Site Profile Committee Coordinator, where she has led a diverse group of people in completing the site profile in record time. Additionally, she started and continues to lead and organize annual events for East Menasha Neighborhood Sale as the co-coordinator. Heather’s vocational background includes a position at Neenah Mothers Of Preschoolers (MOPs) as the Financial Coordinator where she managed annual dues, donation, and ensured the budget was balanced and followed.
Secretary - Mara Schlintz
Mara is a parent member and the current secretary for the Fox Valley Virtual School Governance Board. She is also a proud stay-at-home-mom to two little boys, one of whom is autistic. Her hobbies include reading, painting, and baking. She loves that FVVS allows her the opportunity to be more involved with her children’s education.
Treasurer - Callista Buchen
Callista is a community member and parent of two children enrolled at FVVS. She holds an MA, MFA, and PhD, and has worked in higher education for over a decade, including directing an academic department. A regular presenter at national pedagogy conferences and workshops, she has authored three books. She volunteers with the Fox Valley Literacy Council, where she works with adults on growing their literacy skills. Callista is particularly invested in the importance of access and equity for all learners.
Board Member - Andrea Bierbrauer
Andrea has worked at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve for 11 years. She is the Naturalist/Early Childhood Program Manager and responsible for the development of early childhood and girl scout programming, educating the public through environmental education, and volunteer coordination for events and education. Andrea is a graduate of UW-Stout (B.S. Early Childhood Education) and the University of Minnesota-Duluth (M. Ed. Environmental Education) and holds a Wisconsin Teaching License for Early Childhood/Elementary Education. When she is not at the Reserve, you can find her hiking with her loyal dog Peeta, kayaking, and doing wildlife photography around the Fox Valley.
