A Virtual Education Should Be Well-Rounded
At Fox Valley Virtual School, we like to be picky when selecting the best research-supported curriculum programs. No two students are alike. So we choose curriculum options that are engaging, interactive, flexible and differentiated — designed to challenge each unique student, in every core subject.
Fox Valley Virtual School's impact is reflected in our students' achievements. Academic growth is evident through standardized testing and growth metrics, and student surveys highlight how motivated, engaged, and supported they feel. Families share how our program has reignited their children’s love of learning and helped them develop lifelong skills.
We love connecting with students’ families as partners in learning. We offer parent sessions about our math curriculum, as well as short videos about each reading and writing unit during the year. If you’re interested in more curriculum details, just let us know. We are happy to help!
Weekly Schedule
Each student’s weekly schedule includes physical education, music, art and guidance. And we are proud of the special partnership we have with Heckrodt Wetland Reserve in Menasha. This allows us to integrate environmental education throughout our virtual school curriculum and create meaningful connections between our students and the natural world.
Our schools’ flexible schedule empowers students and families to tailor learning to their own needs and interests. Students of all ages get frequent practice the higher-level essential skills of time management, organization and self-directed learning.
Language Arts
Our mission is for every Fox Valley Virtual student to become an avid reader and writer with an ever-growing literacy skill set that carries them through school, work and life. The language arts curriculum we use was developed by the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project at Columbia University. It uses a workshop approach that focuses on the skills students need to write authentically.
Each learning unit is planned to support the growth of our students as readers and writers. For both reading and writing, students receive short daily videos with mini lessons. After completing the mini lesson, students participate in a variety of on- and off-screen authentic reading and writing activities to apply what they’ve learned.
Students' individual learning needs are addressed each day in one-on-one teacher time.
Mathematics
Fox Valley Virtual School students gain a deep understanding of mathematics concepts through a blend of direct instruction, structured investigation and open exploration. This results in proficiency with key skills, including strategies to solve complex problems.
Our teachers use a live virtual setting for daily math lessons. We use the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum, making number sense and problem-solving skills the focus. Students love the hands-on learning and use of games.
Each student receives their own personal math kit to use at home. It is packed full of visual models, manipulatives, games and other unique learning materials to keep students engaged and learning, all year long.
This curriculum also fully addresses Wisconsin state math standards using an approach that is rigorous, engaging and accessible.
Supports and Special Education
Fox Valley Virtual School teachers provide both reading, writing and math interventions for any student who needs additional support. We have a physical school location where students and teachers may meet on occasion for additional help, as well. Special education services and multilingual services are also provided virtually for qualifying students.
One of my children has an IEP, and I have been very pleased with how Fox Valley Virtual helps students with IEPs and the teachers that work in that program.
